Think you might be pregnant? While taking a pregnancy test is the first step in finding out, there are also signs you can look out for that might indicate you’re pregnant.

1. Missed Period

A missed period is often the earliest and most noticeable sign of pregnancy, especially for those with regular menstrual cycles. If your period is late and you’ve been sexually active, it’s worth taking a pregnancy test to confirm.

2. Nausea with/without Vomiting

Many women experience nausea, commonly known as “morning sickness,” though it can happen at any time of day. This is due to hormonal changes, especially increased levels of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) and estrogen. Morning sickness typically begins between 4 to 6 weeks and may peak around 9 weeks. However, for some women, morning sickness lasts throughout the entire pregnancy.

3. Fatigue

Feeling unusually tired is another common early symptom of pregnancy. The body works hard to support the growing embryo, leading to increased progesterone levels, which can cause sleepiness and fatigue. Getting extra rest and maintaining a balanced diet can help manage this symptom.

4. Tender or Swollen Breasts

Hormonal changes can make your breasts feel tender, swollen, or heavier shortly after conception. This symptom is often similar to premenstrual breast discomfort, but it may be more intense in early pregnancy. This is your body’s way of preparing for breastfeeding.

5. Frequent Urination

Increased blood flow to the kidneys and growing levels of the pregnancy hormone hCG can lead to more frequent trips to the bathroom. This symptom is often noticeable within the first few weeks of pregnancy and may continue as the pregnancy progresses.

6. Food Aversions or Cravings

You may find yourself repelled by certain foods or craving unusual combinations. This is likely due to hormonal shifts and can vary widely from person to person.

7. Mood Swings

Hormonal changes can impact emotions, leading to mood swings or heightened sensitivity. If you’re feeling unusually emotional or irritable, this may be due to early pregnancy hormones.

8. Light Spotting or Cramping

Some women experience light spotting or cramping around the time of implantation, which occurs roughly 6-12 days after conception. This spotting is usually lighter than a period and doesn’t last as long.
